Infancy & Childhood

Shakira announced the news of Milan’s birth on her website. She also revealed that like his father before him, Milan had become a member of FC Barcelona right after he was born. He has been growing up under the constant glare of the spotlight and often makes appearances on his parents’ social media posts. In 2013, he made an appearance on the American singing reality competition television series, The Voice, alongside his mother. The following year, he was featured in the music video for his mother’s song, ‘La La La (Brazil 2014).’ Milan and his family still reside in Barcelona. While pregnant with Milan, Shakira, in association with UNICEF, organized a World Baby Shower. The event reportedly helped over 80,000 children across the globe get vaccinated against polio. It also sponsored four tonnes of food for malnourished children, along with 1,000 anti-malaria nets and 200,000 rehydration powders.

In June 2022, Shakira and Piqué announced separation, putting an end to an 11-year-old relationship. In January 2023, Shakira and DJ Bizarrap released the song “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53.” The song was apparently a diss track targeted at Gerard Piqué and his new girlfriend Clara Chia Marti. While the track went viral, it soon wreaked havoc upon Clara’s life. She became a victim of online hate and was even harassed by hecklers who would surround her on the streets and sing the song to her. All this took a toll on Clara’s mental health and she had to take refuge at her parent’s home where she isolated herself from the outside world.
