Born and raised in Cohasset, Massachusetts, Carell studied at Boston College, from where she graduated in 1988. While at the college, she was a member of the improvisational troupe ‘My Mother’s Fleabag’. She began her career with the popular sketch comedy show ‘Saturday Night Live’. Her popularity started increasing after she began appearing in the comedy satire program ‘The Daily Show’. Other performances that she is known for include a recurring role in ‘The Office’, where she portrayed a character named Carol Stills. Her cinema roles include portraying minor characters in the films ‘The 40-Year-Old Virgin,’ and ‘Bridesmaids’.

Nancy Carell began her TV career in the late night variety TV show ‘Saturday Night Live’ in the mid-1990s. Later, she started appearing in the satire TV program ‘The Daily Show’. She worked for around three years in the show, appearing in over ninety episodes between 1999 and 2002. The show was an extremely popular one, especially among young audiences. It also earned critical acclaim.
In 2003, she made her first film appearance playing a minor role of a flight attendant in the comedy movie ‘Anger Management’. The film, made on a budget of $83 million, earned nearly $200 million. It received mostly mixed reviews from the critics. A couple of years later, she was seen in the sex comedy film ‘The 40-Year-Old Virgin’. The film received mostly positive reviews, and won a few awards as well. It was also a huge success financially, earning nearly $180 million on a $27 million budget.
Her other works on TV include ‘The Office’, a popular American sitcom, where she played the recurring role of Carol Stills between 2005 and 2013. The show depicted the everyday lives of the employees in a branch of the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. The series gained mixed reviews in the first season, though it eventually began gaining more popularity. It won five Emmy Awards as well as numerous other awards and nominations.
In 2009, she voiced one of the main characters in the animated series ‘The Goode Family’. Taking a comical look at the contemporary society, the series shows the Goode family struggling with the modern social and environmental responsibilities of liberals, and how they try to be politically correct about everything.
In 2011, she was seen in the comedy film ‘Bridesmaids’, which was directed by Paul Feig. The film turned out to be a huge success financially, earning nearly $300 million on a $32 million budget. The film was nominated for the Oscars and the Golden Globes in various categories. The next year, she was seen in another film, ‘Seeking a Friend for the End of the World’. In 2017, she was seen in two episodes of ’Angie Tribeca’, a comedy series.
