Oscar de la Renta Biography

Oscar Aristides Ortiz de la Renta Fiallo, famously known as Oscar de la Renta, was a Dominican American fashion designer. He belonged to a middle-class family of scholars and was sent to Spain to learn abstract art but soon he developed love for fashion and set forth to achieve success in it. He was trained by Cristobal Balenciaga and Antonio Castillo in Spain, which led his way to work at Lanvin and Christian Dior in Paris. After working with these brands and designers, de Renta wanted to get into ready-to-wear couture and make money, which is why he went to Elizabeth Arden who helped him in making his own name in the business. De Renta was always a hot favorite of Vogue magazine, which called him the “guru of fashion” in its 1970s issue. He dressed many big names in his flattering and feminine designs, like, Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush, Cindy Crawford, Sarah Jessica Parker, etc. For his beautiful impeccable couture designs, legendary fragrances, heavenly accessories and perfect homeware, de Renta was honored with many awards like, Coty Award, CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award, Fragrance Foundation’s Perennial Success Award, etc.
