Paul Kevin Jonas Sr. Biography

Fondly known as Papa Jonas, Kevin Jonas Sr. is the patriarch of the Jonas family household. He worked at Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas as a teacher who taught songwriting and music. In addition to teaching, he recorded and wrote religious music by himself. His passion paid off soon. In 1996, he was offered the position of a minister at Wyckoff Assembly of God church in the suburb of Wyckoff, California. The family decided to move to New York City after this. It was during this time that his children stared becoming famous, first as actors for commercials and later as musicians. Joe, Nick, and Kevin Jonas were constantly encouraged by their father to put their best foot forward and make it big as musicians.

Papa Jonas also ensured that his children sang perfectly and made sure he was present in their sessions. The hit-band, ‘The Jonas Brothers’, was soon born, and they became famous overnight. Despite a few hurdles and several failed songs, they managed to remain on top of different Billboard charts. After this, Papa Jonas decided to leave his official post and start assisting his children. He worked as their co-manager and went on to find Jonas Enterprises. He also turned a producer in 2009 when he produced the documentary ‘Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience.’

Papa Jonas continued singing and preaching even after leaving the local church. There are several recordings of him singing and preaching, including his renditions of ‘I am Amazed’ and ‘Breath of Heaven’. In the reality documentary series ‘Married to Jonas,’ Papa Jonas appeared as a recurring character. The show ran for two seasons from 2012 to 2013. The family also runs Nellie's Southern Kitchen, a Southern-Styled restaurant in Belmont. He was recently in the news for unfortunate reasons. Kevin Sr. was diagnosed with colon cancer, but successfully underwent a surgery and chemotherapy to become cancer-free. Papa Jonas is very active on social media. He has over 173k followers on Instagram and often posts photographs of his family and his children’s events. He remains actively involved with his spiritual roots and regularly takes part in different religious events, ensuring a strong attachment to his faith and community.

Paul Kevin Jonas Sr. was born on February 13, 1965, in Teaneck, New Jersey. He met his wife, Denise, in the college he was working. She too was a singer like him, and they often travelled with other Christian singing groups. They married each other on 15 August 1985. They are the parents of Kevin Jonas (1987), Joe Jonas (1989), Nick Jonas (1992), and Frankie Jonas (2000). His daughter-in-law is Danielle Jonas (married to Kevin Jonas) and he is the grandfather to Alena Rose Jonas and Valentina Angelina Jonas.

In August 2018, his third son Nick Jonas got engaged to the Indian actress Priyanka Chopra. His tweet congratulating the duo made the headlines in various print media. The Jonas family is extremely close to each other and often take vacations together. When Papa Jonas was admitted to the hospital, all the Jonas brothers flew down to be by his side and took care of him. His hobbies include reading, travelling, and watching movies. He considers Matt Damon and Alexandra Daddario among his favorite actors.
