Presley Smith Biography

Presley Smith was just shy of turning two when she was cast as Sunny Baudelaire. Sunny is the youngest sibling of the Baudelaire family in the Lemony Snicket series, ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’, by Daniel Handler. The comedy-drama series was picked up for adaptation by Netflix and casting calls were floated. Presley’s mother, an amateur actress and model, heard about this from her agent and decided to let her young daughter appear for auditions as she knew that Presley would be the right fit for such a quirky role. Presley’s natural presence and innocent charm stole the hearts of the casting crew, and she was instantly cast in the acclaimed series as Sunny. She starred alongside established actors such as Neil Patrick Harris, Joan Cusack, Aasif Mandvi and Patrick Warburton. Her parents realized the importance of this role and wanted to support her through and through. They left their homes and packed their bags to shift to Vancouver.

Sunny’s role required a little more acting than it is expected from a 2-year-old as her character had supernatural powers, such as biting hard pieces of wood and changing a lightbulb on her own. Her sister Violet (portrayed by Malina Weissman) and brother Klaus (portrayed by Louis Hynes) are often helpless due to circumstances beyond their control, but Sunny manages to help them get away from evil situations by using her powers. Presley’s role required dedication and patience, and she was splendidly assisted by digital enhancements. Originally expected to be a CGI character, many viewers and producers were glad to have seen Presley play this exciting role. The series ran for three seasons from 2017 until 2019, and the last episode was aired on January 1, 2019. Presley had starred in all 25 episodes of the series. As Sunny, Presley is a constantly babbling infant, whose inarticulate sounds are more than meaningless jumbles of noise. While Canadian actress Tara Strong predominantly dubs for Presley, the baby’s voice was finally heard on Netflix in the third and final season. Rest assured, this will not be the last time we will hear Presley’s voice, or see her visage on screen.

The Netflix series, owing to an interesting plotline and a strong cast, has become quite popular since its release; and the new actors have also become famous. While Presley’s young age limits her from being a part of several press conferences and interviews, she has been lovingly mentioned as the real ‘prankster’ on the sets by many as she would often break into giggles and laughter during the filming. Her lovely antics lightened up the mood and brought joy into the show. In an article published by Glamour, she was called the ‘scene stealer’. The reception for the series was positive and almost everybody appreciated Presley’s onscreen presence.

Since her acting days, many fan pages have popped up on social media for Presley. They all aim to chronicle her journey into adulthood and hope to see her work as an actor in the coming years. She also has her own Instagram page, managed by her mother, and has over 75,000 followers there. Presley currently lives in Vancouver, Canada, and she is represented by her mother who handles all business enquiries.

Presley Smith was born on June 28, 2015 to Mike Smith and Paige Lindquist. Her mother is an actress and model, and her parents initially lived in Lake Cowichan. After Presley was selected to play the role of Sunny, her parents decided to move to Vancouver Island and travel with her. Her father decided to quit his job and find one in Vancouver, while her mother decided to become her caretaker during filming. Her uncle is Shane Jung, the MMA fighter. The family and her uncle cheered for Presley on as she took on a new role.
