Madras Rajagopalan Radhakrishnan Ravi is a famous Indian actor who has acted predominantly in Tamil movies. Apart from Tamil, he has acted in Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam movies as well. He has also acted in three serials, including the successful serial ‘Chellamae’. He is the son of veteran Tamil actor M. R. Radha and the half-brother of Raadhika, another popular actress of south India. Having started his career as a theater artist, he eventually moved into films. His film debut was the Kannada film titled ‘Rahasya Rathri.’ He then went on to act in more than 150 movies in his career spanning over 40 years. He was predominantly cast as an antagonist in the beginning. However, now he has proved himself to be a versatile actor capable of playing a variety of roles. He is also one of the many actors who have been involved in politics. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from Saidapet in 2001 as a member of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. He is also known for his controversial criticism of other famous personalities in the film industry. In the recent #MeToo movement, numerous allegations of sexual harassment were made against him. In a recent movie trailer launch event, he made misogynistic comments against the leading actress. He faced public backlash and was suspended from the DMK party.

Childhood & Early Life
Madras Rajagopalan Radhakrishnan Ravi was born on 29 July 1952 to M. R. Radha and Dhanalakshmiammal at Tiruchirapalli. He has a brother M. R. R Vasu and a sister Rathikala. He also has two half-sisters Raadhika and Nirosha and two half-brothers Raju Radha and Mohan Radha.
He played the role of Julius Caesar in a drama as a school boy. During his college days at New College, Jailani and Rafee, his close friends, helped him actively pursue his passion for theatre. They encouraged him to perform for V. K. Ramasamy Troupe, M. R. R. Vasu troupe, T. K. Chandran troupe, and the UAA troupe. In 1980, he started his own troupe called Nadikavel Theatres.

Career
Radha Ravi’s first Kannada movie was titled ‘Rahasiya Rathri,’ which was produced by R. N. Brothers in 1979. It had Vishnuvardhan and Bharathi playing the lead roles. He went on to appear in two more movies in Kannada called ‘Parva’ in 2002 and ‘Alone’ in 2015.
He has acted in three Telugu movies ‘Aswamedham,’ ‘Leela,’ and the more recent ‘Rakshasudu.’ He has also acted in six Malayalam movies between 1988 and 2004 with his first movie being ‘Evidence’ and the last being ‘Vettam.’
He made his Tamil film debut with a minor role in ‘Manmadha Leelai,’ a film by K. Balachander that had Kamal Hassan as the main lead. It was Kamal who had recommended Radha Ravi to Balachander for this movie.
He acted in a few more movies before getting a big break when director T. Rajender cast him as a villain in ‘Uyirullavarai Usha,’ released in 1983. Actor S. S. Chandran asked him to talk like his father M. R. Radha which turned out to be great advice. The audience started noticing his style of dialogue delivery and there was no looking back for him.
He acted in numerous movies after that and managed to get meaty roles in most of the films. Apart from acting, he has also tried his hand at production and has produced films such as ‘Ruthrathandavam,’ ‘Ilaignar Ani,’ ‘Chinnamuthu’ and ‘Thai Maasam Poo Vasam,’ all released during the early 1990s.
Major Works
One of his best-known films is ‘Vaidehi Kathirunthal’ that was released in 1984. The film starred Vijayakanth and Revathi in leading roles. His other notable films include ‘Uyarntha Ullam,’ ‘Guru Sishyan,’ ‘Chinna Thambi,’ ‘Uzhaipalli’ and ‘Poo Veli.’
