Rise to Stardom
Ric Pipino began his career as a hairdresser in his home city of Sydney, Australia, but moved to London, United Kingdom, after being in the profession for four years. Within a short period of time, he made a name for himself thanks to his "shear magic", which helped him get featured on elite magazines, such as 'British Vogue' and 'Harper’s & Queen'. Riding on his success in the UK, he moved to New York, United States in 1981 and settled there. In the next two decades, he built a reputation as one of the “it” stylists in the industry and attracted Hollywood's top celebrities as customers.
He worked with renowned fashion designers and photographers, and had layouts in prestigious magazines. He also regularly worked backstage at the New York and Miami Fashion Weeks. Eventually in 2002, he decided to open a salon under his name and launched 'Pipino' at the Shore Club in Miami. By the end of the decade, he had expanded his business to open his second location, 'Pipino Nolita', in downtown New York, his new home city. He partnered with Patrick Melville in February 2013 to re-brand the new location as 'Melville Pipino Salon'. He expanded the business further in May 2015 when he partnered with Gil Haziza to launch the first luxury mobile salon, 'Hairstream'.
He has earned partnership deals from brands such as Allure, Gurney's, LeSportsac and S.Pellegrino. In July 2016, he opened his newest salon 'Hairspace' at Gurney's Montauk. He currently works from his Manhattan and Montauk locations, and also travels around the globe frequently to provide on location services to his international clients.
