A lifelong fan of the San Francisco 49ers, Ronnie2K, “enjoyed playing NBA 2K5 after getting off work. He was also active on the message boards of the game, and after a couple years, got the opportunity to run the forums following an interview with 2K Sports. Around this time, social media had started to grow, and he was able to carve out a niche for himself by joining various platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. In his first Tweet in June 2009, he wrote, “Made my first announcement and officially kicked off the Ronnie 2K Twitter page!” As several celebrities gathered at the launch party for NBA 2K11, his bosses at 2K entrusted him with the job of interviewing the celebrities, which turned out to be a golden opportunity for his own social media journey. An avid player, he became the person to maintain a link between the players of the game and the NBA celebrities. He is now recognized as a celebrity himself, even though he prefers to identify himself as a YouTube star.

Even after joining the University of California, San Diego, Ronnie2K was not sure what to major in and kept changing majors frequently. With the goal of becoming “a sports agent like Jerry Maguire”, he finally settled with majoring in Economic Management Science with a minor in Law. However, after taking the LSAT, he decided that work experience would be beneficial in the future and joined the law firm Morrison & Foerster, but eventually moved to another firm named Fish & Richardson. While he made good money, he felt miserable at his job and readily agreed to an offer to work for a women’s basketball team in San Diego as soon as the opportunity appeared. From there, he moved to a marketing position with the minor league baseball team, the San Diego Surf Dawgs, where his first assignment was signing “Jose Canseco at the height of his Juiced fame”. Not only was he successful thanks to his prior personal relationship with the baseball star, but his marketing “campaign” involving juice boxes and stickers of Canseco’s face earned viral fame and was featured on SportsCenter.

Ronnie2K, the spokesperson for 2K Sports, has courted controversy a few times in the past while promoting the game online. In early 2020, he had irked DeMarcus Cousins and his fans after blurting out “Cousins is such a d—k” in a live-stream slated to be broadcast on ESPN. He drew the ire of NBA fans after calling himself “GOAT” and giving himself 99 overall rating in the video game. In August 2021, he got involved in a Twitter battle with Kamiah Adams-Beal, wife of Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards, regarding the star player’s 89 rating in the game. Even before he became the celebrity he is now, his sudden rise from a normal forum user to a spokesperson for the 2K company was not taken well by some fellow gamers. Responding to a Reddit post from 2014 calling him an “annoying guy”, Ronnie2K had stated, “My job is to do nothing and block people on twitter who scare me”. He also had to come forward on Twitter to dispel rumors after a YouTuber posed as his son in early 2019.

Ronnie2K was born as Ronnie Singh on November 14, 1982 in the United States. His father was a truck driver and his mother was a seamstress. He primarily lived in California bay area since he was seven. While he played all sports as a child, he became enamored with basketball from an early age. Although he failed to make into the school’s team at Redwood High School, he served as its basketball commentator. After completing his school graduation in 2000, he enrolled at the University of California, San Diego, from where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Economic Management Science in 2004. He has a pet dog named Sophie.
