Career
Shortly after signing with MJZ in 2005, Rupert Sanders directed the epic advertisement “Joy” for Xbox 360. The following year, “Joy,” as well as Adidas’ “Made to Perfection” earned him a DGA Award nomination. He then contributed to Halo 3’s “Believe”, a spot that made it to Boards Magazine’s ‘Top 10 Spots of the Decade’. This was followed by his work for Monster.com’s “Legs” in 2008, which again garnered him a nomination at the DGA Awards. During this time, the talented director also worked on Travelers’ “Delivery”.
In 2009, Sanders directed “Lift” for Puma and “The Spark” for Adidas. That year, he also earned an AICP award for “Field Generals” which he directed for Jordan Brand. The following year, his collaboration with Xbox for Halo 3’s “The Life” won various awards at the Cannes Advertising Film Festival, including the Gold for Cinematography. The epic advertisement also took home four Clios and four AICPs, among many others. Also, at Cannes that year, the director received a bronze in the category of editing for “Slap” that he made for Nike.
His projects for 2011 included ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops,’ which was later cited as one of the most brilliant works by MJZ for the year. Then in 2012, Sanders made his feature film debut with ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’. Starring Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, and Chris Hemsworth, the fantasy film grossed $20.3 million in USA on its opening day. It later went on to earn $396.6 million worldwide against its $170 million budget.
Sanders’ next project was a film adaptation of the sci-fi manga franchise ‘Ghost in the Shell’ which was released in 2017. Set in a time when the line between human beings and robots is blurring, the story follows a cyborg super-soldier who investigates her past. The film earned $169.8 million worldwide against a budget of $110 million.
