Sagarika Ghatge was cast in the 2007 sports-themed film Chak De! India, which became her debut in Bollywood. Since the film was based on hockey, she was an appropriate choice for the role of Preeti Sabharwal, the team captain of the state team of Chandigarh, who irked the national team coach in the movie, played by Shahrukh Khan.
The film and all its actors were highly applauded. The role earned Ghatge an endorsement deal with Reebok India.
Unfortunately, Sagarika Ghatge could not repeat the success of Chak De! India with her subsequent releases. In 2009, she was seen in her first solo lead character, as lawyer Urvashi Mathur, opposite Arjun Rampal, in the thriller Fox. The film did not perform well at the box office.
She next played Kamiah in the 2011 romantic drama Miley Naa Miley Hum, starring Kangana Ranaut and Chirag Paswan. Ghatge played Ahana Sharma, the on-screen wife of Emraan Hashmi (who played Samar Grover), in the 2012 crime thriller Rush.
Sagarika Ghatge then turned toward the regional film industry and appeared in the 2013 Marathi romantic film Premachi Goshta, starring as Sonal, opposite National Award-winning actor Atul Kulkarni as Ram Subramanyam. The film earned accolades and did reasonably well at the box office.
In 2015, Ghatge made her TV debut with the sixth season of the Colors TV adventure reality show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi, in which she finished as a finalist. The same year, she was seen in Dildariyaan, her first Punjabi film. Ghatge played Paali, opposite Jassi Gill as Parwaan.

Sagarika Ghatge is quite secretive when it comes to her personal life. Thus, her fans were shocked when she announced her engagement with cricketer Zaheer Khan on April 24, 2017. People were amused at how her reel and real lives were similar, as her debut character, Preeti Sabharwal, too, dated a cricketer in the movie.
