Sean Patrick Thomas is an American actor, who is best known for his role in the movie ‘Save the Last Dance’. Born to immigrant parents from Guyana, Sean has made a name for himself both in movies and television. His acting career began with a small role in ‘Conspiracy Theory,’ starring Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts. In the next twenty plus years, he has gone on to do major roles in ‘Barbershop’ franchise, ‘Cruel Intentions,’ and ‘Save the Last Dance.’ His role of detective Temple Page in the highly popular television series, ‘The District,’ gave him a huge fan following. Sean Patrick Thomas is a versatile actor and has portrayed roles of varying genres; whatever role, big or small, he has done, he makes sure that he studies the character in detail before enacting it on screen.

Career
As soon as Sean Patrick Thomas completed his masters from the Graduate Acting Program at the New Tisch School Of Arts, he landed his first role in 1996 in the TV series ‘New York Undercover’, which aired on Fox Television Network. He soon began getting small roles in prominent movies like, ‘Courage Under Fire’ (1996) and ‘Conspiracy Theory’ (1997).
In 1999, he landed the role of Ronald Clifford in ‘Cruel Intentions’. This teenage romantic drama movie is a rough adaptation of ‘Les Liaisons Dangereuses,’ a novel written by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. Though the movie received mixed reviews, it was a hit. The very same year, Sean was seen in the movie ‘The Sterling Chase’. Thereafter, he was offered his first major role on television. From 2000 to 2004 he essayed the role of detective Temple Page in the hit CBS American crime drama, ‘The District.’
‘The District’ was soon followed by his first lead role in the movie ‘Save the Last Dance’, in 2001. In 2002, Sean Patrick Thomas essayed the role of Rudy in ‘Halloween: Resurrection,’ a horror film with Rick Rosenthal as the director. The movie was slayed by the critics, but it did okay at the box office. However, his next movie ‘Barbershop’ (2002) opened to positive reviews and was a hit at the box office. He reprised the role of Jimmy James in ‘Barbershop 2: Back in Business’ (2004) and ‘Barbershop: The Next Cut’ (2016). For this role he trained as a barber to get the nitty-gritties of the role right.
In 2006, he was seen in the movie ‘The Fountain’. Though at that time the movie was not appreciated, today it is considered to be a cult classic.
His next movie, ‘Honeydripper’ (2007), is about the origins of rock and roll. In 2008, he was seen in the television movie, ‘A Raisin in the Sun,’ which was based on the play of same name by Lorraine Hansberry. In 2009 , he had a recurring role in television series ‘Reaper.’ In 2012, he essayed the role of Solomon Vessida in television series ‘Ringer.’ His performance in the web series ‘Vixen’ (2015 to 2016) was highly appreciated. In 2019, he was seen in the movie ‘The Curse of La Llorona’; the movie was a box office hit.

Sean Patrick Thomas was born in Washington D.C on December 17, 1970. His parents are from Guyana and they both worked for DuPont. The family moved to Wilmington, Delware and he graduated from Brandywine High School. He then went on to study at University of Virginia with English as his major subject. He planned to study law in the future. However, a chance meeting with Richard Warner changed his career’s direction. Warner, who was a young university director then, was looking for a black actor to cast in his school play, ‘A Raisin in the Sun.’ Sean was in the building that day and Warner asked him if he would like to act in his play. Acting intrigued him and over the next three years he agonized whether he should pursue acting as a career. In 1995, he graduated from Tisch School of the Arts.
Sean Patrick Thomas has been married to actress, Aonika Laurent, since 2006. Their daughter, Lola Jolie Thomas, was born in 2008 and their son, Luc Laurent Thomas was born in 2010.
