Education & Career

In 2005, Serena Skov Campbell Campbell began attending Esbjerg Statsskole, the oldest school in Esbjerg, Denmark. She studied chemistry, physics, and mathematics there and obtained an STX degree in chemistry in 2008.

Campbell then moved to England and began studying for Master of Physics degree at the University of Manchester in 2009. Her supervising professor was British-Russian physicist Konstantin Novoselov. From August to September 2013, she was the summer intern at the biophysics department. She did her Masters project on “Permeation of gases through graphene: possible application for gas barrier and conservation applications”.

Campbell graduated from the University of Manchester in 2014 and subsequently enrolled at King’s College London for a PhD degree in Plasmonics, the study of electromagnetic fields. She is presently a researcher PhD student at the university and has served as a laboratory teaching assistant between September 2014 and January 2017.

From 2012 to 2013, she worked as a consular assistant at The Royal Danish Consulate in Manchester. Over the years, she has been involved with a variety of volunteer works. Between August and November 2016, she was an ambassador for the STEM Learning UK. She has been performing the duties of a faculty equality and diversity committee member at King’s College London since September 2015. She also worked as a Project Juno Commitie member in September 2015.

Since June 2015, she has served as a mentor at Realising Opportunities, a program that helps students by granting them access to some of the country’s leading research-intensive universities through a number of activities. As a mentor, she oversaw a group of four students’ project that they created as part of their RO project. In September 2017, she obtained the associate fellowship from the Higher Education Academy. Campbell has also been serving as a mentor at the Twinkle ORBYT Mission since October 2017.

Relationship with Aziz Ansari

Serena Skov Campbell and Aziz Ansari began their relationship sometime 2018. Born in South Carolina, USA, to a Tamil Muslim family from Tamil Nadu, India Ansari earned his marketing degree from the New York University Stern School of Business. While he was studying there, he started his career as a stand-up comedian. The breakthrough in his professional life came in 2008 when he was cast as the underachieving government employee named Tom Haverford in the NBC comedy series ‘Parks and Recreation’ (2009-15). In the following years, Ansari has established himself as one of the most prominent comedic actors working in the entertainment industry today. He has won two Primetime Emmy Awards for his Netflix series ‘Master of None’ (2015-17).

In January 2018, possibly before he started dating Campbell, Ansari was accused of sexual misconduct in a Babe.net article written by Katie Way. The woman who made the allegations against him was using the pseudonym "Grace". The article garnered a contradictory response from the commentators and the general public alike with disagreement on whether the reported interaction between “Grace” and Ansari could be considered sexual misconduct. Ansari maintained that what happened that day “by all indications was completely consensual”. However, according to his critics, his behaviour was misogynistic, did not have affirmative consent, and demonstrated a larger culture of toxic masculinity. In his Netflix special, ‘Aziz Ansari: Right Now’, he spoke about the incident to his audience, stating that he felt “scared”, “humiliated”, “embarrassed”, and ultimately “terrible” as the woman felt that way. However, after a year or so, he was hoping “it was a step forward”.

Serena Skov Campbell’s views on the matter are yet unknown. In September 2018, the couple were seen together for the first time in New York City. They have since been spotted in each other’s company at the US open and in Los Angeles. She regularly accompanies him to various parts of the world for his comedy shows. The couple has also gone to countries like Italy, Morocco, and Sri Lanka on vacation. In December 2018, he took her to India to introduce her to his grandmother, who reportedly has Alzheimer’s. He too has met her family in Denmark.
