Shayy Dee Bio

Shayy Dee had her first taste of fame when her video of the “break em challenge” on Facebook went viral in 2016. At 16, her viral fame both helped her make new friends and attracted negative attention from people commenting about how she looked. Nevertheless, she kept going and began dropping new videos almost every week. While she had been interested in rap music since childhood, she began rapping seriously also in 2016. She originally started with freestyle rap, but was unsatisfied with the result and later began writing her raps. She joined YouTube on April 27, 2018 and started uploading videos of herself “doing dumb sh’t” to entertain her fans. She gained fame on the platform after she released her first single, Temperature, on October 19, 2019. Her popularity on YouTube grew steadily as she continued to vlog and make other videos with her friends and family members. She went on to release new songs like Demons and Yuh Get Into It on YouTube, as well as other streaming platforms.

Shayy Dee has been suffering from health issues since the day she was born. Born to Black parents, she was very pale and was found to be an albino, meaning that her skin, hair, and eyes had minimal pigmentations. She had seizures shortly after birth and her whole body had turned blue. She was born one month premature, weighed just about 4 pounds, and had breathing issues, due to which she had to be put into an incubator with a breathing machine and feeding tubes. Despite limited expectations, Shayy was able to survive and was taken home weeks later. Because she was not walking even after one year and a half, her mother hired a physiotherapist to assist her.

At three years, Shayy Dee had to be airlifted to the hospital after suffering from a seizure in her sleep. She had slipped into a coma, but eventually woke up in the arms of her grandmother, Annie, and even began walking at the age of three. Shayy also suffers from a number of other disorders including scoliosis and muscular dystrophy, and cannot see properly during the day. She has gone through multiple surgeries so far, in her backbone, her leg, and her eyes. In a video, she mentioned requiring more surgeries, including one for non-cancerous cysts found in her breast.

While Shayy Dee has not lived a day without feeling physical pain because of her illnesses, she has also suffered from depression. She began attending a public school at five and was often subjected to ridicule and bullying by her peers due to her appearance. While recovering from a surgery at nine, she was sexually molested by her uncle, who was reported to the police for touching her inappropriately. Even though she was able to accept her appearance, at one point she felt so helpless at her various diseases that she tried to commit suicide by consuming several pills prescribed for her seizure medication. Thankfully, she was saved after her mother rushed her to the hospital.

Shayy Dee was born as Shakoveonce Reed on July 14, 2000, in Davenport, Iowa, United States. She was born to Tabrick Jordan and a man she had a fling with. At the time of her birth, her father was in jail and her mother was in another relationship. She has an older step-sister, Onna, and a younger step-brother, Fred, from her mother’s other relationships. She now shares a good relationship with her mother’s partner and even calls him “dad”. She has lived in Louisville, Mississippi and Atlanta, Georgia.

In a video posted in January 2020, Shayy Dee introduced fellow social media star Hakeem Newkirk as her boyfriend and also revealed that they were expecting a child together. They subsequently began appearing together often, but later it turned out to be a prank for social media clout. In October 2020, she confirmed through an Instagram post that she was engaged to a girl named Kat Breezy.
