Shura Baryshnikov is an American dancer, choreographer, and actress. She is the daughter of actress Jessica Lange and ballet dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov. Trained in classical ballet as a kid, she grew up accompanying her mother to various filming locations. In high school, she ran track, played field hockey, and rode horses. Later, Baryshnikov majored in American studies from Marlboro College. A passionate and talented dancer from childhood, she spent most of her youth in tutus and pointe shoes. Today, she is considered one of the most renowned dancers in the country. While dancing is the biggest love of her life, she is a multitalented lady with varied interests across diverse fields. In addition to years of teaching dance at Brown University, she has also tried her hands at cooking, arts administration, and interior decoration. She has also acted in a few plays including Oscar Wilde’s ‘Salome’ at the Boston’s Bridge Repertory Theater. On a personal note, Baryshnikov is a very sweet and humble woman. She is very close to her family, especially her mother.

Shura Baryshnikov works as a teaching associate at Brown University’s Department of Theatre Arts and Performance Studies, working primarily with actors and directors, teaching dance, movement, and contact improvisation. She has served as a choreographer as well as a movement consultant for The Wilbury Theatre Group, Trinity Repertory Company, and Elemental Theatre Collective. In addition, Baryshnikov has also worked as a freelance dancer. She has performed in works by Betsy Miller, Ali Kenner-Brodsky and Heidi Henderson. She has also danced with the American Dance Legacy Initiative, Aerplaye Dance, Festival Ballet Providence, Elemental Theatre Collective, Lostwax Multimedia Dance and Bridge Rep of Boston.
Baryshnikov has taught dance at the Salve Regina University, Rhode Island College, Dean College, Connecticut College, and MIT. She also works as a dance teacher at Moses Brown School. She has worked with the SITI Company under Anne Bogart as well. The American choreographer/dancer is also a part of Actors' Equity Association. She is the co-founder of the Doppelganger Dance Collective, a dance company she founded with Danielle Davidson.
As an actress, Baryshnikov has starred in a production of the play ‘Salome’ at the Boston’s Bridge Repertory Theater. She was also a cast member in the musical ‘Oklahoma.’ Her performances have been showcased at the RISD Museum, Institute at Brown for Environment and Society, Providence Fringe Festival and in the Moving Arts Lab at Earthdance.
