As a child, Skylar Grey performed in a folk duo called Generations along with her mother. In 2005, she released her first EP titled ‘Holly Brook EP’ and co-wrote the tracks "She Said" and "Done With Like" for Larson's album, ‘Finally Out of P.E.’ The following year, she released her debut album ‘Like Blood Like Honey’. After this, she got featured on two tracks "No Sad Tomorrow" and "Victim" from Apathy's studio album titled ‘Wanna Snuggle.’

On June 10, 2010, the singer released her third EP ‘O’ Dark: Thirty’. That year, she also wrote her first song "Love The Way You Lie" for Rihanna and Eminem. After this, Grey went on to release her track “Dance Without You" in June 2011. In the month of July, her second single "Invisible" was released on radio. The following year, she co-wrote the single "Clarity" for Russian-German musician Zedd. She also released the lead single for her album ‘Don't Look Down’ titled "C'mon Let Me Ride".
