Sommer embarked on her fitness journey at the age of 15, when her family moved to Lone Tree, Colorado. Her father coached her on everything about fitness, bodybuilding, and workouts. She began with weight-lifting sessions in her gym that was set up in her basement. It took her just a year to acquire the body required to be a bikini athlete. Soon, she won two trophies at the 2015 'NPC Colorado State Championship,' in the categories 'Bikini Class D' and 'Bikini Teen.' The same year, she bagged the 16th spot at the 'NPC USA Championship.’

The following year, Sommer began her social-media career by posting her photos and videos on 'Instagram.' Soon, her stunning photos took over the internet, and Sommer became an internet sensation. After achieving 15 million 'Instagram' followers, Sommer celebrated by posting a “twerk” video. However, she had registered her presence online much earlier, in 2013, when she had posted a few funny videos on ‘Vine.’

In 2016, Sommer was named the “Lovely Lady of the Day” by 'Sports Illustrated.' Sommer later shifted her focus and decided to become a bikini model. Sommer also owns a 'YouTube' channel, which hosts content related to fitness and workouts. She also posts other entertaining content, such as music videos, challenges, and pranks. Some of her most popular videos on the channel are 'Q&A with Sommer Ray,' 'Life of Sommer Ray,' ‘God Church Music Video | BEHIND THE SCENES,’ 'Getting ready with Sommer Ray!,' 'Touch My Body Challenge w/ Alissa Violet,' and 'PICKING UP MY NEW CAR.' The channel has earned over a million subscribers. Sommer is also a member of 'Clout Gang,’ a group of popular “YouTubers.” She has also appeared in the ‘MTV’ sketch comedy series 'Wild ‘N Out.' Sommer also owns a merchandize line that she trades on her personal shopping site.

Sommer has made a name for herself as a bikini athlete and an internet sensation. However, her stunning pictures that are available all over the internet have got her into many controversies, too. Sommer has been accused of posting such photos to gain attention. Some of her haters once stated that posting photos in skimpy clothes was an easy way of income for her. Sommer responded to such hate comments through one of her videos, which featured her stating that she had no shame in doing what she did and that she was the one who paid her bills.

Sommer was again pulled into controversy when her 'YouTube' video editor Soloin posted a video complaining that she had not paid him. Eventually, the matter was resolved.

Sommer was born on September 15, 1996, in Larkspur, Colorado. Her father and her mother, Shannon Ray, were both competitive bodybuilders. Shannon has also worked as a beauty blogger and an 'Instagram' model. Sommer is of mixed descent, as her mother is Czechoslovakian, and her father was adopted. Sommer’s elder sister, Savana, and her younger sister, Skylyn, are both social-media stars. They have another sibling named Bronson. During most of her childhood, Sommer had to move to various cities quite often, due to her parents’ professions. However, the Ray family finally moved to Lone Tree, Colorado, and settled down.

Sommer’s workout session includes a high rep-range, consisting of 12 to 15 reps per set, which helps her in keeping her lower body in shape. She squats to increase her body strength, as she seems to lag behind on that front, compared with most of the other female fitness icons of the world. Sommer was rumored to be in a relationship with "YouTuber" Bryan Le, better known as "RiceGum." However, they were later accused of faking the relationship to gain viewership for their channel and 'Clout Gang.' Sommer has also dated model and former 'The Young and the Restless' actor Max Ehrich. The affair reportedly began in August 2017. The rumor surfaced when they began appearing together in public. They were spotted together at the 'Happy Death Day' premiere held at ‘Universal Studios,’ Hollywood. Sommer had met Max through actor Bella Thorne, their mutual friend. Sommer is presently dating Eduardo Isaiah Chacon.
