Back then, Sophie and her boyfriend had been together for a year. They had also been best friends for a couple of years. He was about to enter college, while she in her junior college. He then joined a college near Sophie’s home.

Initially, Sophie's boyfriend did not receive the news positively. They often fought over the issue, and he even suggested an abortion. However, with her mother's support, Sophie decided to keep the babies. Her boyfriend, too, eventually accepted her decision
