Steven Jay Williams had a very difficult childhood and thus he never got the opportunity to properly plan for his career. He was also very overweight due to which he suffered from low self-esteem. Thankfully, he received some help from his elder brother with whose guidance he learned to code and became a web designer. Steven Williams turned to social media and made a channel on YouTube called ‘Boogie2988.’ Little did he know at that time that this channel would literally rescue him from the pathetic life he was living and catapult him to fame, wealth, and glory! The first video he posted on the channel was a simple gameplay video. As he posted more videos, he realized that he was gaining a following. Many people commented on his videos, offering words of praise and encouragement. This gave the depressed young man much hope and he began uploading a wider variety of content related to gaming. One day Lady Luck smiled at him and he was given a shoutout from the popular YouTuber Ray William Johnson which changed his fortunes for the better.

Over the course of his online career, he developed the fictional character of “Francis,” a childish adult with lisps. Following the shoutout, the number of subscribers on ‘Boogie2988’ shot up steeply, bringing widespread popularity to the hitherto relatively unknown YouTuber. As often happens with well-known YouTubers, his fame spread beyond the video-sharing website and he was invited to post his content on Twitch.tv as well; he streams on Twitch.tv 3-5 times a week today.

Steven Jay Williams was born on July 24, 1974, to Wanda and Carl Williams as one of their three children. His father was a coal miner while his mother was a teacher. He grew up in a highly dysfunctional family with an alcoholic absentee father and an abusive mother. Young Steven’s childhood was a hell and he sought solace in food, often binge eating. His eating habits made him fat and unhealthy while his abusive parents made him emotionally sick.

As a youngster, he often suffered from depression and had a very low level of self-confidence. With the help of his elder brother, he somehow managed to become a web designer but his low self-esteem and health issues prevented him from becoming successful in this profession. Eventually, his life took a turn for the better when he discovered YouTube and started posting videos on it. After much struggle, he was finally able to achieve all the success and wealth he had ever wished for. Life is yet not perfect for Williams as he still suffers from various health issues, but he is definitely going on the right track now.

On the romantic front, he met a lady named Desiree who loved him for who he was despite his obesity and health problems. The couple got married in 2013. They, however, divorced in 2018. His current girlfriend was revealed in a KidBehindaCamera’s video.

Boogie2988 has been embroiled in a lot of controversies over the years. He has been criticized several times for his brash behavior during his Twitch streams. In one such stream, he talked about the better health care that came with the holocaust due to the brutal human experimentations done during the time. In another stream, he made a snide remark at a patron after the latter revealed he was black. He even poked fun at his deceased friend which received severe backlash.

Apart from his controversial streams, Boogie2988 has also been involved in tax fraud, having not declared the income he generated by selling Magic: The Gathering cards. He was also criticized for his involvement with BetterHelp.
