Tyler Cole initially gained recognition as he released his first album 'Stranger' in May 2016. The follow-up second album, 'We're in Love & the World Is Ending', was released on October 13, 2017, and contained the single 'Sidney Poitier', named after the legendary actor. However, it is his relationship with Willow Smith which has drawn the attention of the media and tabloids. They have been working together professionally for a long time and co-produced the single 'Afraid', which was released on November 1, 2015 and featured vocals by both of them. She later featured on his songs 'Pray For Me' and 'Sorrow' from his debut album.

In March 2017, both Tyler and Willow co-wrote and featured on the song 'Fools' by JABS. The couple, who reportedly first met through her older brother Jaden, was first romantically linked in April 2018 when they were seen on a movie date together in Calabasas. However, he feels that his biracial origin often prejudices people about the music he makes. He told 'Alt Philanthropy' in an interview that people sometimes criticize his eclectic tastes and raps because of the color of his skin, making it harder for him "to be alternative, or to do things that are out of the norm".

Tyler Cole's high-profile affair with Willow Smith has garnered media attention not only because she is part of Hollywood royalty. Interestingly, back in June 2019, Willow had opened up about her sexual preferences during a candid chat with her mother Jada Pinkett Smith and Jada’s mother Adrienne Banfield-Jones on their 'Red Table Talk' on Facebook.
