Vanessa was born Vanessa Adriana Nadal, on August 18, 1982, in New York City. Her father’s name is Frank Nadal.
Vanessa joined the 'Hunter College High School' in 1994. She was part of the school’s girls’ tennis and swim teams. The president of the 'Hunter Latin Organization,' Vanessa also wrote for her school’s newspaper, 'What's What.' In 2004, she received her chemical engineering degree from ‘MIT.’ Vanessa was also a member of ‘MIT’s dance troupe. Before making a career in law, Vanessa did a 3-month internship as a lab researcher at the 'Austrian Academy of Sciences' in 2001. The following year, she completed a 9-month research internship at ‘MIT.’ In 2010, Vanessa graduated with a ‘Juris Doctorate’ (JD), the highest law degree in the US, from the 'Fordham University School of Law.' Career
Vanessa began her career in 2004, as a research and development scientist for the innovative ageless skin platform at 'Johnson & Johnson.' Back then, she had already worked with the company as a research intern. Vanessa left 'Johnson & Johnson' in 2007. She then ventured into a full-fledged law career with 'Jones Day,' an international law firm based in the US, in 2009. She joined the firm as a summer associate in May 2009. During her tenure as a 'Jones Day' law associate, Vanessa had argued before the 'Supreme Court of New York Appellate Division' and had appeared in federal court conferences. In October 2010, Vanessa began working as a law clerk at 'Jones Day.' However, she was not admitted to the bar.

Vanessa is married to 'Tony Award'-winning singer, actor, composer, lyricist, and playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda. They have known each other since their college days. Both Miranda and Vanessa attended 'Hunter College.' Miranda was two grades senior to her. However, they never interacted in college. They came to know each other years later.
After graduating, Vanessa and Miranda parted ways to pursue their respective careers. Years later, they reunited over a 'Facebook' chat. Miranda then invited Vanessa to see him perform with his “improv” group, 'Freestyle Love Supreme.' Vanessa was impressed with Miranda’s performance. Later, with the help of a common friend, they got each other's phone numbers. Their relationship flourished eventually. Vanessa and Miranda are poles apart in terms of likes and dislikes, but that brought them closer. However, sources suggest they bonded over the game 'Grand Theft Auto.'
Vanessa and Miranda got married on September 5, 2010, in upstate New York. He surprised his newly wedded wife with a dance that he, along with both their families and friends, had rehearsed secretly for a month. When Vanessa’s father, Frank Nadal, stood up to give a toast and requested Miranda to say some words for Vanessa, he began singing the 'Fiddler on the Roof' song ‘To Life.' Everyone then danced to the track. According to a 'The New York Times' report, a chorus of ‘Broadway’ singers had performed at their wedding ceremony, while the reception featured a performance by a 22-piece orchestra.
On 10 November 2014, Vanessa and Miranda became proud parents of a son named Sebastian. In February, 2018, Vanessa gave birth to her second son, Francisco. She shared the news by posting a photo of their newborn on her 'Twitter' account. Vanessa’s second pregnancy was revealed in December 2017, when her baby bump was clearly visible at the 'London Evening Standard Theatre Awards' red carpet.
