Nobel Prize-winning Chinese physicist Charles K. Kao is best remembered for his discovery of how light is transmitted through fibre-optic cables. Named the Godfather of Broadband, he was also knighted by the U.K. Following his diagnosis of Alzheimer disease, he co-founded the Charles K. Kao Foundation for Alzheimer’s Disease.

Ranasinghe Premadasa was a Sri Lankan politician who served as the third president of Sri Lanka from 1989 to 1993. Before serving as the president, Premadasa served as the prime minister of Sri Lanka from 1978 to 1989. In 1986, he became the first Sri Lankan to receive the prestigious Sri Lankabhimanya, the country's highest civilian award.

It is believed Indian spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar had started reciting the Bhagavad Gita by age 4. After graduating in Vedic literature and physics, he propagated Transcendental Meditation with his guru Mahesh Yogi and later established the Art of Living Foundation, which organizes spiritual courses worldwide.

Charles Forte, Baron Forte was a Scottish hotelier best remembered for establishing the hospitality company that eventually became the Forte Group. He is also credited with opening the first catering service at Heathrow Airport in London in the 1950s. In 1970, Charles Forte was knighted by Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon for his achievements and contributions.

William Lee was an English inventor and clergyman who is credited with inventing the stocking frame knitting machine. Denied patent by Queen Elizabeth I, who was concerned about her hand knitters' employment security, Lee moved to France where he was granted a patent by Henry IV of France.
