Tertullian was a prolific early Christian author from Carthage in the Roman province of Africa. He was the first Christian author to produce a significant body of Latin Christian literature, known for his work as an early Christian apologist and polemicist against heresy, including Gnosticism. Tertullian contributed new theological concepts and played a role in the development of early Church doctrine. He is credited with introducing the term "trinity" in Latin, although some of his teachings were later rejected by the Church.
