Mary Peters is a Northern Irish former athlete who specialized in the pentathlon and shot put. She was athletic from a young age and received encouragement from her father to pursue her passion. She represented Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the Summer Olympics in 1972 and won the gold medal in the women's pentathlon.
Leila Rajabi is a shot putter who represented Belarus from 2001 to 2007. Since 2007, she has been representing Iran. Rajabi is best known for winning the silver medal at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon. Leila Rajabi is the current Iranian national record holder in shot put.
Nadzeya Astapchuk is a Belarusian shot putter who was stripped of many titles including an Olympic gold medal for failing a drug test. The World Athletics disqualified all her results since August 2005, costing her the world championship title among other prestigious titles. Prior to her disqualifications, Nadzeya Astapchuk had won a silver medal at the 2003 World Championships.
Belarusian shot putter Natallia Mikhnevich clinched first position in several competitions including in European U23 Championships (2003), Universiade (2005), European Championships (2006) and World Athletics Final (2006). She faced a two-year competition ban for using prohibited substance. She was stripped of her 2008 Summer Olympics silver medal in 2016 after re-analysis of her drug sample tested positive for prohibited substances.
Gael Martin is a former Australian athlete. She excelled in the shot put and the discus throw and also had a career in powerlifting. She received the bronze medal in women's shot put at the 1984 Summer Olympics, becoming the first Australian to win an Olympic medal in a throwing event. She was coached by Franz Stampfl.
Daniela Costian made headlines when she became the first discus thrower from Australia to earn an Olympic medal, with her bronze in Barcelona in 1992. She has a World Championship silver and a Commonwealth Games gold in her kitty, too. A Romanian by birth, she took up an Australian citizenship later.
