Patrick Monahan is an American singer, musician, songwriter and actor. He is famous as the lead singer and member of the music band ‘Train’, which was formed in the 1990s. Their first album was ‘Train’, a self-titled album. The band has released several more albums such as ‘For Me, It’s You’, which reached 10th position on the US Billboard 200, and ‘California 37’, which reached 4th position on the US Billboard 200. Monahan had also released a debut solo album named ‘Last of Seven’. Though it wasn’t very successful commercially, it reached 82 position on the US Billboard 200. Patrick Monahan’s band ‘Train’, has been nominated for eight Grammy awards, out of which they won three. Their second album’s lead single ‘Drops of Jupiter’, earned them two Grammy Awards, in two different categories. They won another Grammy Award after several years, for the song ‘Hey, Soul Sister! ‘.

Childhood & Early Life
Patrick Monahan was born on 28th February, 1969, in Erie, Pennsylvania, in the US. His father was Jack Monahan, who was a musician and also owned a clothing store, and his mother was Patricia Ann Monahan. He had seven siblings, out of whom he was the youngest.
He studied at McDowell High School, and later did his higher studies from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.

Career
Patrick Monahan’s music career began with the band ‘Rogues Gallery’ in 1988 to 1990. Other members included Mark Emhoff, Mike Imboden, John McElhenny, and his brother Matt McElhenny. The band broke up in 1990.
Monahan moved to California, and met Rob Hotchkiss, and shortly after, they formed the band ‘Train’.
They initially did many tours nationally, and in 1998, their first album ‘Train’ was released. It included several tracks such as ‘Meet Virginia’, ‘I Am’, and ‘Eggplant’. It reached 76th position on the US Billboard 200.
In 2001, they released their second album ‘Drops of Jupiter’. It’s lead single ‘Drops of Jupiter’, was a huge success, and won two Grammy Awards as well. The album was met with mixed reviews. It did well commercially, and reached 6th position on the US Billboard 200. It did well in charts of several other countries as well. It reached third position at the Australian Albums Chart and also at the Dutch Albums Chart. At the UK Albums Chart, it peaked at sixth position.
Their third studio album was ‘My Private Nation’. It included tracks such as ‘Calling All Angels’, ‘When I Look to the Sky’, and ‘My Private Nation’. It received mixed reviews from critics. It reached sixth position on the US Billboard 200, though it didn’t perform too well in other countries.
Their fourth album was ‘For Me, It’s You’ which released in 2006. It reached tenth position on the US Billboard 200. It included tracks such as ‘Get Out’, ‘Cab’, and ‘Shelter Me’.
In 2007, he released his debut solo album ‘Last of Seven’. It included tracks such as ‘Cowboys and Indians’, ‘Two Ways to Say GoodBye’, and ‘Last of Seven’. The band’s next album was ‘Save Me, San Francisco’. Its song ‘Hey, Soul Sister’, became hugely popular and received a lot of appreciation, and also won the Grammy Award, in the category of ‘Best Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals’. The album reached 17th position on the US Billboard 200. Other tracks included ‘Parachute’, Breakfast in Bed’ and ‘Marry Me’.
The band’s next album ‘California 37’, was released in 2012. It included tracks such as ‘Drive By’, and ‘Mermaid’. The album did well commercially and also peaked at 4th position on the US Billboard 200. It performed well in several other countries, peaking at 6th position on the Canadian Albums Chart, 3rd position on the Scottish Albums Chart, and 7th position on the UK Albums Chart.
Having already found much success, ‘Train’ continued to release multiple more albums, which included ‘Bulletproof Picasso’ in 2014, ‘Christmas in Tahoe’, in 2015, and ‘Train Does Led Zeppelin II’, in 2016. The band’s latest album was ‘A Girl, a Bottle, a Boat’, which released in 2017. It peaked at 8th position on the US Albums Chart, at 5th position on the Australian Albums Chart, and at 3rd position on the Scottish Albums Chart. The album received mixed reviews.
Other than music, he has also played guest roles in two TV shows ‘Hawaii Five-o’, and ‘CSI: New York’.
Major Works
’Drops of Jupiter’, which was the lead single of the second album of ‘Train’, Monahan’s band, can be considered his most important work in his career. The song which was released in February 2001, managed to hit the top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100. It also won two Grammy Awards in two different categories. It also reached the top ten in charts of various countries such as Australia, Belgium, New Zealand and UK.

From 1990 to 2006, Patrick Monahan was married to Ginean Rapp, who worked as a teacher. They had two children named Patrick and Emelia.
In 2007, he married Amber Peterson. They have two children named Autumn and Rock Richard.
